The Trust was launched in 1988 and is run entirely by committed volunteers, pledged to assist the  surgical and medical specialists in different units of Southend Hospital, including Operating Theatres, Critical Care Unit and High Dependency Unit, in their aims to help patients have safer surgery and quicker recovery times.

The Trust was the first to provide blood-recycling equipment in England. Since then it has supplied and held in trust on behalf of the community several separate, vital specialized items of equipment on permanent loan to the Hospital Trust, whilst retaining ownership. Many items have attracted the interest of other surgical specialists in other hospital groups.

The Advanced Surgical Equipment Trust funds and encourages research and development, as well as permanently loaning the latest and most advanced equipment to Southend Hospital in the name of patient care.

THE TRUST DEPENDS TOTALLY FOR IT’S INCOME ON FUNDRAISING AND ON THE GENEROUS HELP OF COMPANIES, INDIVIDUALS AND CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS.
